Handler was diagnosed with cancer of breasts in 1989. She passed away after fighting cancer for over ten years. Handler was raised Reform Judaism by her father, who was Jewish. Handler enjoyed a pleasant and healthy growing up in a posh neighbourhood. Her move to Los Angeles when she was at the age of 19 and began to explore acting. Handler began performing to earn money. Handler, who was then 21, decided to focus on stand-up comics full time after discovering her storytelling skills. Handler started her stand-up career on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Badly show, which featured a reality TV show that had a hidden-camera/practical joke. It aired from 2002 until 2005. Handler was also featured in various show, like Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began her professional career as a reporter for The Tonight Show. Handler achieved her first big break in 2006 hosting a show for E! It was called the Chelsea Handler Show. The show lasted for two seasons. Handler then performed in America on Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour. Her stand-up performances have been broadcast by VH1 and Comedy Central's Premium Blend and HBO.
